After debuting in 1994, the Simtek team returned for the 1995 F1 season. The S951 was an updated version of the car from the previous year, with modified aerodynamics and improved suspension. The engine was the Ford ED mated to a Benetton transverse gearbox. David Brabham left the team to move to the English touring championship with BMW, and was replaced by Jos Verstappen, a Benetton driver whom Briatore had, however, turned to Simtek to allow him to accumulate experience. The other driver was Domenico Schiattarella. After an unpromising start to the season, the team fell into an irreversible financial crisis in the aftermath of the Monaco GP, leaving Formula 1 forever.
