The Chaparral 2D designed for the 1966 endurance season was a logical continuation of the concepts put into practice by Jim Hall in previous years. The engine was a 5360cc Chevrolet V8 with four Weber carburettors. The power was around 425 horsepower. The three-speed transmission was semi-automatic. During 1966 the 2D was used in four events, retiring at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans, but at the 1000km of the Nurburgring Bonnier and Hill, after setting the second time in practice, took the lead and achieved an unexpected success, also thanks to a correct choice of tires.
