The coupe configuration of the 124 series was introduced in March 1987, with the 230 injection (136hp) and 300CE versions equipped with the largest of the inline 6 cylinders available at the time, credited with 188 horsepower. More accessible versions (220CE, 150hp) or more sporty (300CE-24, 220hp) completed the offer in 1989, followed three years later by a 320CE with 220hp, with an engine with exceptional elasticity. The C124 was a great success, perhaps thanks also to the fact that the direct competitors Audi and BMW did not have any car in the same category in their list. Buyers had only the Honda Legend or Saab 900 as an alternative.
