Six months after the presentation of the futuristic Quattro, Audi proposed a coupe derived from that car at the 1980 Paris Motor Show. The engine was always a 5-cylinder in-line, naturally aspirated; the GT Coupe did not have all-wheel drive, only rear-wheel drive. Initially, the 1921cc engine developed 115 horsepower. Later other engines were adopted: 1994cc (115cv), 2144cc (130cv), 2226cc (136cv). Released in a perhaps inconvenient period, in which the GTIs focused the interest of enthusiasts, the Coupé GT nevertheless achieved some success, with 173747 units produced until November 1987.
