Known as the R1132, the Renault R8 Major was an enhanced version of the standard R8, with a bigger and more powerful engine along with a better finish. Production started in February 1964 and stopped in September 1965; the Major reappeared in the autumn of 1967 and remained available until August 31, 1974. That second series was however eclipsed by the new R10; the car was also simplified, receiving some details of the R1130, namely the basic R8.
