In June 1985 the C8 was presented, the new Group C of Peter Sauber, destined to debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The chassis was very similar to that of the C7, but the novelty was the 5-liter Mercedes V8 engine, credited with over 700 horsepower. Rudiger Faul and Leo Ress contributed to the aerodynamic development of the car. Over the course of his career, the C8 proved to be competitive and an evolution version was produced in 1986, although the gap was quite marked with respect to Jaguar and Porsche. In any case, the C8 gave Sauber his first world championship victory, in August 1986 at the Nurburgring.
