At the 1962 German GP Ferrari also presented an updated version of the 156 F.1. The car had modified suspension and chassis, with a slightly longer wheelbase. From an aerodynamic point of view, the new 156/62 lost the two characteristic front air intakes, replaced by a single ovoid mouth. The engine was the 1500cc V6, which developed around 205hp at 10,500 rpm. The wheels were alloy, instead of spoked ones, that would be used again in some races. The first full season of the 156/62 was 1963, a year dominated by Jim Clark with Lotus.
In 1962 Bandini took part in 3 F1 World GPs, all with Ferrari. In Germany, at the Nurburgring, the Italian driver qualified in 18th place, retiring from the race due to an accident.
