The Japanese entrepreneur Akira Akagi bought the March in May 1989 and starting from 1990 the cars participated in the F1 world championship under the name of Leyton House. The CG901 for 1990 was designed by Adrian Newey who did not abandon the ideas used for the 1988-1989 models. Ivan Capelli and Mauricio Gugelmin were confirmed for the third year in a row. The CG901 also benefited from some changes to the suspensions introduced by Gustav Brunner already in the extreme evolution of the CG891 at the end of '89. The Judd engines were also improved, with the EV evolution from 78 degrees. Solved some aerodynamic problems, the CG901 turned out to be quite competitive at times even if not very reliable and very fluctuating in terms of performance. Capelli managed to take an exceptional second place in France while Gugelmin obtained a sixth place in Belgium as best result. Leyton House finished seventh in the constructors' championship.
