At the beginning of the 1962 season, BRM seemed capable of aiming decisively for success, after a positive decade under the direction of Sir Alfred Owen. Graham Hill was confirmed for a third consecutive season and was joined by Ritchie Ginther from Ferrari after Tony Brooks announced his retirement. The official car was the P57 with V8 injection engine, already seen in the tests of the 1961 Italian GP. Graham Hill dominated the season by winning in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and South Africa, winning the drivers' championship with a conspicuous advantage over Jim Clark and Bruce McLaren. BRM won the constructors' championship, ahead of Lotus and Cooper.
