On 2 December 2017, the return to racing and the return to F1 of Alfa Romeo was announced. The operation was based on the agreement with the Swiss team Sauber. The engine, branded Alfa Romeo, was supplied by Ferrari, and was a 1600cc V6 with turbocharger, Kers and energy recovery. Electronics was Magneti Marelli. For the 2018 season the drivers were Charles Leclerc, Marcus Ericsson and, as tester, Antonio Giovinazzi.
