Further development of the DN3, the 1975 Shadow DN5 marked the English team's first success in F1, in the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch in 1975 with Tom Pryce. Jarier took pole in Argentina and Brazil and the car often occupied the top positions during the races, obtaining valuable placings that earned Shadow the sixth place in the constructors' classification. Due to the problems of the DN7, the DN5 was used for a good part of 1976 (model DN5B) and in 1977.
