Work on the first Fittipaldi of Formula 1, a team wanted by the world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, began in October 1973. The car was quite conventional, with the Ford Cosworth engine combined with the Hewland gearbox. Not very competitive, the Fittipaldi FD01 was used in 1975 and early 1976 with poor results. It was piloted by Wilson Fittipaldi (Emerson's brother) and another Brazilian, Ingo Hoffman.
