Lola returned to F1 in 1987 with a project commissioned by Gérard Larrousse on behalf of Didier Calmels, financier of the operation. The construction of the cars remained in England, but the logistics and the team were in France. Designed by Broadley and Bellamy, the LC87 was a fairly conventional single-seater, with a 3.5-liter Cosworth DFZ engine and Hewland FGB gearbox. During the season Philippe Alliot and Yannick Dalmas achieved acceptable results.
