The first Formula 1 of John Surtees' team, the TS7, was completed in time for the 1970 British GP. John Surtees was in charge of the technical project, assisted by Peter Connew and Shabab Ahmed. The TS7 took up the concepts of the TS5 of F.5000 / Formula A of 1969. The engine of the TS7 was the Ford Cosworth V8, combined with the Hewland DG300 gearbox. During the 1970 season a further developed version was worked out. Driving the TS7, Surtees won the Oulton Park Gold Cup, a non-world championship race.
