The first Alpine sport-prototype was the M63, whose design began in November 1962, when Jean Rédélé, helped by Renault for the supply of the engines, hired Bernard Boyer and Richard Bouleau for the construction of a brand new chassis; the aerodynamic part was handled by Marcel Hubert. Equipped with a 1000cc engine revised by Gordini and capable of a hundred horsepower and with a Hewland transmission, the M63 was capable of speeds in excess of 220 km / h at Le Mans. The M63 was the ancestor of a series of Alpine sport-prototypes that will come up to the A220 of 1968-69.
