The Brabham BT52 was the first single-seater with supercharged engine to win the Formula 1 World Championship. This car, conceived by well-known South African designer Gordon Murray, was characterized by an innovative arrow shape given by the sides and the large front wing. Powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder in-line BMW engine with a single KKK turbine on the left side and a single exchanger, capable of developing a power of between 740 and 800 hp, the Brabham BT52 had perfectly incorporated a whole series of winning solutions, from the particularly small petrol tank (capable of holding less than 250 liters), to the hydraulic jacks for rapid lifting when in the pits, from the pull-rod suspensions, an evolution of those used the previous year, to more weight distribution on the rear axle. The chassis was made of carbon fiber in the upper part, while the lower part was made of honeycomb aluminum for a total weight of 540 kg. At the wheel of the BT52 Nelson Piquet clinched the second of his three world titles, obtaining a total of three victories, the last two (on the Monza and Brands Hatch tracks) with the BT52B evolution which debuted mid-season in Great Britain.
