In 1967 Alfa Romeo presented a sport-prototype, equipped with a 2000cc engine. The 33/2 had a difficult start with a very complex season, full of reliability problems. Things improved in 1968, when the car was radically modified and became very competitive in the 2-liter class, also obtaining homologation in the Sport category. The 33 2-liter continued its career in 1969 and also in the following years, with private teams. The 33 model was then updated, finally receiving the 3 liter engine starting in 1969.
