The Ferrari 250 TR made its debut almost incognito at the 1000km of the Nurburgring in 1957. Compared to the recent sports prototypes of the Maranello company, the 250 TR was equipped with a 3-litre 12-cylinder unit derived from that of the 250 GT (from 1958 the technical regulation in fact limited the displacements of the Sports to 3000cc). 1958 was the first season of concrete successes for the 250 TR: Phil Hill and Peter Collins won in Buenos Aires and Sebring, Musso and Gendebien won the Targa Florio while Gendebien and Hill won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1959 the 250 TR things got complicated because Ferrari found the new Aston Martin DBR1 in its path, which won the Sport Championship. The 250 TR, continuously updated and modified, remained Ferrari's flagship car in endurance racing until 1962.
