During 1950, Ferrari presented the 375 F1, which echoed the 340 in appearance but in reality reserved the main innovations in the engine, a 4.5-liter 12-cylinder. The car debuted in Monza in 1950, with Dorino Serafini and Alberto Ascari. For 1951 the Ferrari 375s were modified and proved very competitive; at the 1951 Silverstone Grand Prix, Ferrari achieved its historic first victory in Formula 1 with Gonzalez. A version of the 375 was also made in 1952 for the Indianapolis 500, which took to the track for the first time at the Valentino circuit in 1952. In Indianapolis, however, the 375s proved not very competitive and not suitable for that very particular race. The 375 Indy reappeared at the Monza 500km in 1958, with Harry Schell.
