The fifth generation of the Civic (EG6) was presented in 1992. The sports version, signed VTI, took up the concepts that had made the recipe of the previous model successful. The 1595cc engine gained ten horsepower, thus reaching 160. The car had acceleration qualities unknown even to much larger models. 211 km / h as a top speed and 8 ”2 to get from 0 to 100km / h were quite convincing arguments. These were accompanied by legendary reliability, perfect gearbox and road handling like a true sports car. The EG6 version of the VTI was discontinued in 1995.
