The March 761 represents an icon of Formula 1 from the seventies, even if it achieved only one victory, the third and also the last for the English brand. To bring the 761 to success in the 1976 Italian Grand Prix was Ronnie Peterson, who died on the same circuit two years later with a Lotus. At the wheel of the same car Lella Lombardi only took part to one race, the opening GP of Brazil before being taken over by the Swede. This single-seater was derived from the March 741 project, raced two years earlier and then updated in 1975 with the "751" model. Not particularly reliable, however, it was able to adapt well to all types of circuit and in particular to the faster ones such as the Monza one. Equipped with a monocoque aluminum frame, weighing 576 kg and with a wheelbase of 2,591 mm, it mounted double triangle suspensions at the front and with upper connecting rod and lower quadrilateral in the rear, with Koni coil spring shock absorbers. Self-ventilated Girling / Lockheed disc brakes in steel and Goodyear tires. The push was the Ford Cosworth DFV 8-cylinder 90 ° V longitudinal rear engine of 2.993cc, capable of delivering a maximum power of 480hp at 11,000 rpm. The gearbox was a 5-speed Hewland manual type plus reverse.
