At the end of 1963, the Ferrari 250 GTO already had two seasons behind it in which it proved to be the reference competition GT. Ferrari, however, planned a bodywork development for 1964, to keep the car competitive with respect to increasingly fearful competition. Some new cars were prepared with this type of bodywork, while others of the first series were updated. Among these was the famous 4399GT belonging to the English Ferrari importer, Maranello Concessionaires. The GTO 64 ran in all the trials of the world championship and in all the national championships, continuing its career for several years, as indeed almost all the GTO 62 did.
