The Porsche 550A was the development of the 550, built in 1953. The 550A was put into production starting from 1956 and differed mainly in the chassis, now in steel tubes. The bodywork was also different and lighter than that of the 550. The 550A had the 547/1 type 1498cc engine and 135 horsepower, about twenty more than the unit mounted on the 550.
